Toddlers/Preschoolers eating habits!!!!

I have 2 kids (2 and almost 4) who will not eat vegetables at all! In fact, the only thing they will eat is chicken nuggets, pizza with no cheese, and PBJ. Do I force them to eat the foods that are healthy for them (make them sit at the table until they eat a bite), or do I just let them go hungry. My 4 year old is very stubborn and will sit at the table for hours before eating even a bite of food. I don't want them to hate sitting at the table to eat, but I also don't want them to just eat junk food. HELP!!!

deceptivly delicious! (by jerry seinfields wife) google it! she purees vegitables and adds them to everything. that way they still get the nutrients that they need, and they don't even know it. Just remember, still serve vegitables as a side, and act like there is nothing unusual going on. that way you are still teaching them it is important to eat your vegies, but you don't have to stress about nutrition. SO COOL!

Sounds just like my 3 yr old. She will eat tomatoes and cucumber, but thats it for veggies. She does however eat alot of fruit. So if they will eat fruit, buy alot of it...stawberrie,bluberries,bananas,etc... i try to buy the better chicken nuggets without ribmeat and pbj isnt the worst thing in the world. i do also giver her gummie vitamins everyday, she thinks there fruit snacks.....

I'm a tough love kind of mom, when my son(2.5) would only eat processed and packaged foods I stopped buying them. If they aren't in the house they aren't an option. Eventually they get hungry and will find something else they like. Now he'll eat most veggies raw and a few cooked, most fruits and just about anything else I serve. I also now(about a month later) let him have "special foods" 2 or 3 times a week.

My four-year-old loves veggies - cooked/raw - doesn't 2 1/2-year-old will not eat ANY VEGETABLES at all.   They both get veggies on their plates at dinnertime.  Every now and then he will try a bite of whatever veggies are there, but usually spits them out.  I am hoping he will just start liking a larger variety of food as he gets older.  The great thing is that he loves fruit, so he gets his fibre/vitamins there.  I don't replace healthy food with junk food, just to get them to eat.  (Although they definitely get their share of "treats"!)  The other thing I do is hide veggies wherever I can - spaghetti sauce, pizza, lasagna etc.    I totally hear you about the chicken nuggets, pizza, and PBJ!  What is it about these food that kids love!!!  I don't give them daily vitamins.  I don't know if there is anything helpful here, just thought I would share my experience.  Everything I have read about it seems to indicate that toddlers usually do fine, even if they don't eat a lot, or a great variety.  It is a very common problem for the age group.  We just hope that if we keep offering healthy choices, they will eventually grow out of it.  Good luck!

Hi Allison,

Try mixing veggies into their food. You can buy vegetable baby food, and spread it on the pizza, or mix it into the mac & cheese. If that doesn't work, get some Pedialyte so they get the nutrients they need. Make sure you are also giving the liquid vitamin once a day; ask the Dr. if they need the one + iron. GOOD LUCK!

My four year old son is the same way.  What I started doing was this.  I took a muffin tin, put a little bit of different food in each cup. I left it out where he could see it and watched to see if he sampled any of the "different" foods in there.  I put grapes, cheese, veggies and for the veggies i made sure i had low fat ranch dip for dipping.  Eventually....all the food would disappear
