To all the parents who are concerned and worried about their kids having tonselectomy and adenectomy I was in a lot of confusion too.My daughter was born with enlarged tonsils and adenoids and heavy snoring at night. No infection or pain but laboured breathing at night and in the morning she was very tired.Appetite was good but speech and growth affected. The speech specialist checked her tonsils and suggested they were big I got frightened and went to see 2 ENT specialists for their opinions and they confirmed enlarged tonsils and adenoids.I refused surgery but they was no other option.
I waited another week to see if I can find an alternative non invasive but seeing my daughter struggling to sleep made me to book for surgery. We didn't have private cover and the waiting period for public hospital was 6-12months.We divided to pay the private cover all together hospital cover $2200,surgeon $1600.anaesthetist $600. We got back $400 from Medicare.
The surgery took 15minutes and she was taking panadol every 6hours for one week. She loved icey poles and soft food till after one week full recovery.BEST decision ever made, she has gained almost 4kgs, sleeping well, speech improved and very happy and grateful for all the other mums who posted different opinions for the surgery.I spend hours reading all of you posts to make a decision .
During recovery her voice changed but everything back to normal. She is ready to start school next year.If u leave in Melbourne go for Mr Baker ent specialist great job and follow up.
