After viewing the footage from the Texas tornados and having survived one myself i was wondering if any of you have tornado stories to tell. We had our tornado on 01-08-2008 and still today i am terrified of them. I stay up all night tracking them around us and won't even leave home if there is a tornado watch out. Does anyone else experience these feelings.

Actually, yes (I am also a survivor). My fears always corresponded to times of personal turmoil, and grew dramatically when I became a mother. It really is something I had to work out with therapy, so it didn't take over my life. Basically, if you find your normal daily activities interrupted by a fixation with anything (tornados or not), it's time to seek help, from a therapist, pastor, even a trusted friend...but talk it out so you can still be cautious of severe weather, but focus on happier things! Good luck!

Yes, I survived a tornado April 10th,1979 in Vernon,TX and Wichita Falls, TX. For years it was called Terrible Tuesday. Many died and lost homes. I don't wait for the weather man to tell me to watch the weather. We educated ourselves to notice Wall clouds and other indicaters of severe weather. Sometimes a weather warning dosn't come, sometimes you can not hear the alarm due to the wind speeds and sound. Be Safe and Be Prepared.

We live in the country so there were no sirens or warning I just opened the door and it was there. I work in town and they have sirens but inside you can't hear them so I am not so sure they even help.

I am sorry for any losses you suffered at the hand of these monsters. I find them beautiful to watch and would love to chase them and am pretty smart when it comes to tracking them as I have spent many hours doing so to keep my family safe. I do believe that if it is your time then you have to go but also believe you should not walk into oncomming traffic. I watch alot of weather and start prepareing (SP) days before storms are here. I don't think I let them control my life...I just believe in being ready when they come! Even if it means no sleep for 48 hrs.

I went through the Texas tornadoes that just happened. I live in Garland where 2 touched down and we don't have working warning sirens (thanks, City Council). Am I afraid of tornadoes? You betcha. But I can't let them rule my life. I'm cautious and I signed up for the weather alert system (they call if there is severe weather in your zip code). We have candles and flashlights and a weather radio that is battery operated and hand-cranks. You have to be prepared but also know that tornadoes are like sentient beings. They almost have a will of their own. One house can be demolished while the one next door isn't even touched. There's no rhyme or reason to these storms...they just happen.

That is eaiser said then done. I grew up in tornado alley and it wasn't until I was actually in one that I became this scared. It killed the man behind us and destroyed the back of our land. I was alone and terrified. I called my best friend and she prayed with me till it was over. It wasn't until 2 days later that I relized how close to the actual tornado I was . By the time I made it to work I was unable to stand on my own and was filled full of zanex by the nurses just to get me calm enough to make it back home. I feel for anyone who is in the path of these monsters and hope one day I can live in peace of this terror. I am not scared of storms in general as it wasn't even storming that day. It just came from nowhere. I enjoy the thunder and lighting but terrified of the calm in the storm.

I lived in a place that has lots of tornadoes for 10 years. They can be scary, but you cannot let them rule your life.
