My lil boy is 3 he turns four in 3 days, anyways when he crys recently he coughs like he's about to be sick he olds his chest and says his heart hurts, he is also very out of breath with rapid breathing. This worry a me and not sure what to do. Corey my lil man has transposition of the greater arteries. He has heart surgery at 6hours old n then the switch opp at 5 days we have had yearly check ups at gosh ( great Ormand street hospital) and they say his valve is leaking n he obviously has a heart murmur but basically this don't matter and he is brill health like any other toddler. My son is an intelligent lil boy and not sure if he's playing on it as a few months ago he woke up in the middle of night in agony he was screaming I was so scared he said his arm n chest hurt and all I thought I'd how does a lil kid/babe put arm n chest together her was being violently sick and was extremely disorientated he didn't know where he was anyways ambulance came and said he seems in full working order Corey by this point was his normal self and they asked if I wanted to take him in coz his ecg was abnormal I explained his surgeries and that his ecgs would always be abnormal so they went. I'm wondering if he remembers this n knows how to turn me from Stern mum to soft mum in a heart beat. Know it's long winded but plz anyone els with same I would love to know. Do I quick take him to see his pediatrition or not my local docs are beyond useless they have no idea about his previous health and have no knowledge of his heart defect so I don't think they are knowledgeable enough to give me the right answers I suppose. Be happy to hear anything similar 🕹😬😀🤒😓😗

Thanks Sarah, yes his cardiologist is more than brilliant and has explained on numerous occasions that as he grows this will stretch the valve and explained he will definitely be expecting surgery in the future I was expecting it to be at his 3 year check that they would book Corey in for surgery but they said there has been minimal change and that he doesn't need another check for 2 years which was a surprise. So next check will be next Christmas holidays. And it's so difficult to get Corey in to see his actual cardiologist leaving me the option of his paediatrician who's is rather unknowledgeable about Corey's heart defect I wonder weather to take him accident and emergency where they can find someone with the right skill set n give him an echo then and there x

IMO, with his history I would take him to see either his pediatrician (who knows him well) or his cardiologist. A leaking valve (depending on the valve, and there are 4 different one in his heart) can cause no problem or it can cause serious problems. I am glad you have been diligent in having him evaluated each year, but perhaps it's time to make an extra trip in to the heart doctor. Simply that he can relay to you that he has pain in his chest that is radiating to him arm is enough to warrant a check on his progress. Did the doctor ever give you the indication that the valve may need to be replaced someday? Does he take any type of medication?
