Treatment for self injury?

Nathan's self injurious behaviors have been out-of-control. He hits gouges his eyes. He was in the ER last week because he gouged under his eyes so much that they wouldn't stop bleeding. He also bites on his hands, fingers and arms.
We have tried many meds to help him. He just started the drug naltrexone. He is also on clomipramene, Klonopin, levothyroxine and DEPAKENE.
He wears bike gloves to help stop the biting of his hands and fingers. But it doesn't always help. He has sores on his hands.
The worst part is his eyes. I am so afraid he is going to take his eye out or worse. We've tried having him wear safety glasses or other glasses. But he presses so hard on the glasses that the glasses also give him sores.
Does anyone know of any meds or alternative treatments that have helped? I am willing to try medical marijuana. It has to have less side effects than the meds he's on now.
Does anyone have ideas on how to protect their children from self harm?
We are trying to get an iPad for him to communicate. Until that time I don't know what to do. Or if the iPad will even help.

Nathan is 22 years old. He has autism. He also has severe self injurious behaviors with anxiety and OCD.
He is nonverbal. He does use signs and gestures to communicate but not everyone can understand him. He lives in a group home.
Thanks,
Meg
