My son has ADHD Spectrum Autism and now I noticed something new. Trichotillomania!
He pulls the hair off his legs and picks the skin off. Bites nails etc. I have no idea what to do.

Does he get services at school for his ASD? If yes, I'd address this right away to the behavioral therapist and try to nip the behavior before it is habitual

It seems like it's soothing for him. He's 8 and he just started it. I haven't had it diagnosed yet., so no medication. Was in the room with him and saw him examining his legs searching for hair. I asked him what he was doing and he said pulling the hairs out.

Does it seem to be a compulsion, like he has to do it? Or does it seems like stress reducing, self soothing behavior? What behavioral modification method have you tried and were they successful? You can try something bitter on his hands to help him stop biting his nails. How old is he, when did this start and how high functioning is he?
