Hi Everyone, I am new to this community. I am a single mom of 4 girls. My oldest is 11 and my youngest is 8 months. I am having trouble with my 5 year old and need suggestions. She is extremely defiant and constantly fighting with her sisters. I feel like I am having the same conversation with her over and over again and just want her to get along with her sisters, and me. She is my rebel child and it seems like there is no getting through. Any suggestions?

I read a really good book on parenting by Gabor Mate - one of the quotes was to work the relationship not the problem. I found it helps when I don't know what to do with my son - instead of focussing on giving consequences and so forth, I try to find something to connect between us and do lots of hugs and physical contact. The listening comes more easily after that. However, I have only one - you have all my admiration for bringing up four.

Hi July,

Thank you very much for the advice. And I know a lot has to do with the new baby. But I will take your advice into consideration. Believe me I have tried everything with her. But I do like what you have said and it does make perfect sense. Thanks again!
