My son has eczema too and the doctor told me that the hydrocortisone cream will cause the skin to darken as a side effect, it shouldn't cause major issues though. Do not use it all over his body- my son's doctor told me to use it mainly where the eczema starts- in the creases of the elbows and knees and anywhere that he sweats, like bends of legs and maybe under his neck. The eczema should receed then, hopefully. Just be patient. Also do not use bath soap, lotion, etc on him that has fragrance or dyes. That's right, the sweet smelling baby products are a no no. Use fragrance and dye free everything- Dreft laundry soap is good. I used it on my laundry too. Everything he touches should be washed in it including blankets and bedding. If you just washed clothes in fragrance and dye filled laundry soap, rewash in Dreft or All Clear laundry soap. Ask your pharmacist or doctor where at the store you can find unscented and dye free products for you baby, they should be able to help. This all helped greatly with my baby. But when he got older he started breaking out again and I finally relized that he was allergic to orange juice- citric acid in oranges and other citric fruits will more than likely cause eczema flare ups. Hopefully this helps! The darkness should clear up too. :-)
