I just want to write in to encourage anyone who is going through the trauma of toddler constipation. We have tried everything for the past two years: laxatives, stool softeners, increased fiber, probiotic powders, enemas as a last resort, epsom salt baths, pears, prunes, apricots: nothing worked consistently until two weeks ago I read about milk and constipation. We tried switching to almond milk and the next day, as well as for the past two weeks straight, my two and a half year old son has been having bowel movements on his own. NO PROBLEMS! He's now even ready to try the potty! We since then increased water and things became even more normal. The next step will be to find out if he has a lactose intolerance or if he's just allergic to the milk protein. At this point we are incredibly relieved to see him going on his own. I wish all the doctors we had talked to for the past two years had told us to simply try stopping milk. Here is the article about milk and toddler constipation that inspired the switch: http://www.drgreene.com/qa-articles/milk...
Best of luck!
