My son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 4. No matter what I try he has no attention span. He will be 7 in April. I use to buy him shoes with Velcro, but with is age I thought it is time to teach him how to tie his shoes, so I bought him brand new shoes, in his favorite color and I have been trying for the past 2 days to teach him. But has NO interest at all. He either ignores me or changes the subject.

Any pointers, advice, ideas??

I could barely tie my shoes when I was 7, I found it really hard. Are there any older boys in the area who could teach him? An uncle or older teenager? Someone he looks up to? My son does tons of stuff for his uncles that he never pays attention to for me.

I really, REALLY struggled with my son. I spent 6 months trying to teach him with no success. We tried Easy Tie laces www.easytieshoelaces.com and in 3 days he was tying. He liked that he could pick out his own colors which magically doubled his attention span. I now had 10 sec of focus : )

Hi there,
I'm not sure what's best. My son couldn't tie his shoes either. He couldn't get the concept. I tried for a while with no results.
I figured he'd learn in time and decided not to push it. He's 12 and he just learned.
My brother taught him the way he learned and it just clicked. So maybe with time it's a little easier. My son has dyslexia . I just figured its like potty training... They'll learn eventually
