My 17 nearly 18 yr old son is causing me so many issues. He went off the rails in October 14 taking meth and stealing. He has been to court and has lost his licence for 6 months. His father arranged a job for him through a friend but getting him to work is like pulling teeth. He is an ungrateful and extremely self centered boy. I hate the situation I am in my life is a constant rollercoaster and I hate it.

If he isn't willing to change, then you'll be doing him no favor by enabling him to continue to do meth, steal and be lazy. He is lucky he isn't in jail. If he is still doing meth, lock up your purse, jewelry. car keys and don't give him any money. Lay down the law, shape up or ship out.

How is he not responsible for this Susan? I'm sorry, but just saying it isn't his fault and walking away until he is "ready" is hardly helping.

Sounds like my grandson. I found help reading The Gift of Learning. In the meantime, know that what is wrong is really not his fault.....amazing to hear that, but true. Get a used version on amazon and get him some help. Unfortunately, if he isn't ready to work with a professional, wanting to change, all you can say is, "There is a way you can stop this that is fast and easy, if you want help let me know." Even if he isn't ready, speaking with the professionals you can find through the book will help you understand him.....much easier to be forgiving. I've felt that knife in the heart.

Give him notice that he will need to start paying rent or he will be evicted. Stop enabling him. Clearly he doesn't have a need to work, so he is choosing not to.
