My baby is underweight. He is a breasted baby but to make matters worse he is a very fussy eater! Is there anyone going through this and what is your advice and how did you manage to get their weight up! Frustrated!

what do you mean by underweight? If you mean they are lower than 50 percentile for their weight, then that does not mean underweight. If a doctor tells you they are not gaining weight well enough, or they lost too much recently, then you worry. That is also when you ask a doctor how to help them gain.

I have a child who has always been a lower weight percentage. She is 3 and she is less than 10th percentile for weight and 15 percentile for height. There is nothing wrong with her. She is short and skinny. If i feed her things that make her gain weight I might end up with a short and fat child later.

Babies eat what they need to eat. They don't typically eat for pleasure like we do. Since there is breastmilk involved they might not need to eat much more. The only real thing you can do is always offer food, at least 5 times a day. If they eat thats great, if they don't just put it up and try again.

At a year old you can pretty much offer them the same lunch and dinner as you. I have a 13 month old. Last night we had minestrone soup. She tried it and really wasn't into it. Instead of eating what we ate, she had left over chicken from the other day. She is pretty good about trying food once she sees the rest of the family eating. (her and my 3 year old get fed first by about 5-10 minutes sometimes)

What does he like to eat? My daughter was a fussy eater too. I had to try all sorts of things. Since he is still breast feeding, make sure your eating a good wholesome diet. Lots of whole foods and plenty of water. If your diet is bad, he will not get the nutrients he needs.
