Unpaid for fundraisers

I have 3 people who have ordered stuff from my son for his fundraiser. I paid out of pocket for it (easier to hand over 1 check versus multiple) and now I've been sitting on this stuff since 4/13. I've run it up north (1 hr one way) once, only to be blown off. 1 person scheduled 3x with me, and never showed/called. 1 person said, "oh yeah, I'll be over next week" and never showed (she did that 2x). The last one just said, "I'll pick it up after class" and never showed. Seriously! At what point is it ok to just claim it as my own and be done with all the BS?

It's not theirs until they pay for it so I'd keep it for myself. I don't order things for others unless they pay me in advance.

When my son sells Boy Scout popcorn, I get the money up front. We trusted people at our other location and ended up paying about $300 for tons of popcorn we could never finish eating! Since then we always get the money up front. It makes it easier too. When delivery time comes, and no one is home, we can just leave it on the porch!

That's my thinking. This is the first year I've had an issue. And it will be the last year I let them "pay when it's here". At least the fundraiser is chocolate ...
