unruly teenager and the struggles of becoming his step mom

He has been discipline from day one but for the last couple years he just laughs at his dad and does even more to be disruptive. He will literally sit behind you and hurt the animals and his sister and when you turn back around he acts like nothing happen. Then out in public he is even worse. He will throw himself down like a two year old and kick and scream. He will scream so loud that everyone in the store will turn around. If we take things away from him like his Ipod or headphones he will down spiral. He won't try to be better to get them back he will get worse so even more is taken away....

It depends. What is he doing? Usually by the time they are teens it is too late to START disciplining them - that has to take place consistently right from the word go. You can't just suddenly decide that your house needs rules and boundaries when they are teens and expect that to be respected. By all means, you can try - you can set up very explicit house rules and consequences, but it is an uphill battle if you are just starting now.
