Does anyone know if an attorney can get access in a custody battle that you have been in an abuse shelter from your current spouse. Their was no physical abuse but the info could be damaging. I am trying to keep the info from my ex for what looks like the beginning of a custody battle for my beautiful little girls. any responses are appreciated as he is going for full custody.

Get a lawyer of your own--the best your can find and afford. All legal records of adults are accessible to officers of the court. Place the needs and safety of your children first.

Well, if you have to divulge all the information (which you should have to) then yes you will need to. The main point for them to see is that you took yourself and your children out of an unhealthy environment. Quite honestly, if your children were in some kind of abusive home, i do think the father has every right to know. They are his kids also. Wishing you the best, but really you should be honest. Maybe at this point, if it is that serious of a situation, the best place for your children to be out of harms way, is WITH the dad. I don't know the situation though. But, do what is best for your children....and sometimes that can be difficult when we of course want to be with them.
