Urgent: boy name close to Bernice?

My grandmother passed away in March and today my grandpa asked my dad to ask me if my little boy turns out to be a girl if I will use my grandmothers name, Bernice, as the middle name. Of course I would but unfortunately I don't think he's a girl. I've known I was having a boy since I found out I was pregnant and very clearly saw his male anatomy on the ultrasound. My grandparents had been together since they were 13 years old. They got married at 18 and had 3 kids by the time they were 21. They're love story was like something out of a Nicholas Sparks novel, they were always my inspiration for never settling for anything less than an extraordinary love. Of course he's still incredibly heartbroken having lost the love of his life after over 65 years together. My grandmother was the most loving woman I've ever known and I really want to do this for him. I don't know when the next girl in the family will be coming along since my sister in law is also pregnant with a boy and my sister is waiting a while to have another child.

Can someone please help me find a boy name that's similar to Bernice. My grandpa is in great health but I have heard of people going soon after loosing a spouse and since the only time they were ever apart was for the first 13 years of their lives I don't want to wait for the next grandchild to use her name.

I was thinking about Bernard, that was the closest boy name to Bernice I could think of but I'm definitely open to suggestions. He's due any day now so it's somewhat urgent. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A middle name is not used that often so Bernard would work well. How wonderful to want to honor your grandfather by using a name similar to his beloved wife. If Bernard doesn't work well with your sons first name, maybe Benny or Benjamin might work. Much luck in finding the middle name and in having a healthy baby and healthy delivery.

What about if you just use Bernie? It's more of a nickname from Bernard, but is a closer name to Bernice.
