using a spoon to feed himself

Hi, i'm just wondering if anyone can help me. My son is 13 months old and has shown no interest in feeding himself with a spoon. He is great with finger food & will pretty much eat anything i give him, but if i am feeding him & give him a spoon all he wants to do is play with it & than wont eat his food. Just wondering if any other mums have some tips they could give me.

MIne too, spoons are way too fun to eat with! He's got plenty of time to learn though. I know with my little man, I'm not even sure what hand to give it to him in, or to show him with. I think he is left handed but might be to early to tell. I usual give him the spoon when we are close to done, that way he can't make a huge mess with all the food, just the leftovers. Just keep showing him, he'll get it :)

He is ONLY 13 months! My 14 month old couldn't care less about feeding herself. Just relax my older one was 2 before he was actually good at using utensils and probably 18 months before he even showed an interest in trying. Why do you want to rush it?

He will get it in time. Does he see you eating with a spoon? Kids will copy us, so that helps to get them to do something
