My Daughter's father allows her to play minecraft all of the time etc..we share custody of her and theres no talking to him, outside lawyers and courtrooms. etc....we just, dont' talk, he refuses to talk to me. Soo, knowing that fact that I can not negotiate w/ him....we have to find a way for when shes at our house to curb her appetite for this. We don't even have a vid game counsel of any kind. She's not interested in anything but playing w/ these realistic dolls called Reborns that I collect, role playing etc. How Could I divert her attention?!?!!? Thanks! ~Carrie~

Have you thought of crafts? Art? Photography? Going to museums that might be free in your area? Find art or photo classes for both of you. Find something she is interested in. Mine Craft is not all that bad a game for kids. It makes them think about what they have to do in the game to keep their little man alive. If you go to youtube, you can see a few videos of what kids have created on it. But at the same time, you have to teach her how to limit her time. Also, introduce reading as a past time too. Teach her to use her imagination.

Since the game is at her dad's house you can not control what he does there. At your home you can. As I said above, find something that interests her. My kids and I used to also sit down and go through the upcoming movies (years ago) and pick out several we thought we wanted to see. We would pick a few of them and then go see them. Our entire list never did get seen because frankly it would be too expensive to take the kids to the movies all the time. Also, we have a medieval fair about a two hour drive from where we live we try to go to all the time in the spring.

Its not hard to find things to do, just the things that can get her interest.

That is a great take on it. She is 9.5 yrs old I thought I had mentioned but since I post so much I probably forgot this time around. Do you have any ideas of hobbies. She ONLY wants to play "babies" w/ me. House w/ the babies, store w/ the babies etc etc ugh!! :(

Without being on the same page with dad, its going to be hard. But what you can do instead of making a big deal out of it is to try to find a hobby she can get into with just as much enthusiasm as she does the Mine Craft game. I am not sure how old she is for you did not tell us. But there has to be something she has to have an interest in. Encourage it, build upon it, and then she can maybe slow down the video games.
