The 'normal' range for first steps is 9-18 months. A child can start walking before or after this range and still be considered 'normal'. If you have concerns about your child's development... ask their doctor. Otherwise, don't worry and just let your baby develop on their own timetable.

Why are you worried? There is a broad range of what is considered normal. My daughter didn't walk on her own until she was 14 months old. She actually didn't crawl in the traditional sense either till she was 14 months old, and she is just fine. Her doctor was never worried.
