DS is 2 1/2 months old. Since week 8 he seems to eat every two hours. I breastfeed him on demand and this is the pattern. He weighed 13.5 lbs and measured 24 inches long at his 2 mo checkup. He is a big for his age. I figured he had a growth spurt a couple weeks ago, but he has not changed his eating pattern. I just think every two hours is excessive. Can anyone share your thoughts regarding this?

Unless my son is sleeping, he is eating every two hours, in the evenings it is sometimes every 1.5 hours. He just turned 3 months. With that being said mine is small for his age... every baby is different. As long as you are feeding him when he wants to eat (every two hours is the norm), and he has enough wet diapers then you don't have to worry about his weight gain being too much or too little. Think of it this way, his weight gain tells you that he is getting enough and you don't need to worry about your supply. You are doing great! :)

I also breastfed our son on demand at that age and he ate every two hours. There is nothing wrong with feeding him when he's hungry.

Breastfed babies do eat more frequently than bottle fed babies. If he is growing steadily there is nothing to worry about. When he starts moving about he will burn off more calories and his weight gain will slow right down.

They all balance out and thin out in the end. I breastfed my daughter always on demand between her 1 week and two week appointment she had gained 3 1/2 lbs. she was in the 99 th percentile for weight. Her growth slowed down significantly by the time she was 9 months old, she got sick and actually lost a little. Once they become active they thin out and as he gets older he'll become more efficient at nursing and less interested in it. I don't think eating every two hours is excessive for a breastfed baby, my daughter would also cluster feed at night so I would of been happy for two hours in between.
