Ok...I am beyond frustrated. My daughter (2nd child) is almost 5 mo old. Lost all my baby weight by my 6 week apt (only gained 20 during pregnancy). Then I proceeded to drop to 8-10lbs below pre-prego weight by during a home workout DVD called Insanity and eating very healthy/counting calories. HOWEVER, for the past month I have put on over 12 pounds because I CAN'T STOP EATING! How is it possible to gain that much in a month? Moms that are breastfeeding have you had this problem? I don't know what to do and the more depressed I get the more I want to eat...it is taking over my life...

With my second baby I gained 35 lbs extra which was hard to lose as I am a busy mom and can't go gym. However, I managed it with the help of mummy magic weight loss tea. I am also an ebf mom and it didn't affect my supply.

Hi Andrea . . . I really liked sarah s response . Would like to tell u that i was super hungry after my delivey . . Could eat anything and everything at all times . I lost about 4 kg of weight after delivery and then stopped loosing weight . however now i m loosing weight by exercise and just cutting down on my meal portions . To ans ur query . . . Yes it is normal to feel hungery while breastfeeding . since we r producing milk for baby its completly normal for our body to need more calories in turn ok to feel hungy . . But sometimes suger cravings can mask ur real needs . Suger craving is a sign of dehydration or need of protein . So next time u feel hungry try having a glass of water first . . . Then if u still feel hungry have some protein . I usually had eggs , n chiken and sometimes oats . They kept me full for longer time . Take care . God bless u n ur little one

Sarah, I appreciate your response...I have never been overweight and was a college athlete so I understand all about a healthy lifestyle/calorie counting/being healthy. I know why i'm gaining weight right now -- I am eating an unbelievable amount of food :) there is no mystery there -- I was just asking if other breastfeeding mothers have felt this type of endless hunger. I guess what I'm looking for is an explanation as to why I am so hungry...postpartum? Hormones? I'm crazy ;)?

Are you still doing the workout DVD and eating very healthy and counting calories? If you are not that is probably the reason for the gain. You can lose weight by doing those things, but you have to continue to do those in order to keep the weight off. Weight loss has to be a lifestyle not a diet. It has to be something you can continue with for the rest of your life....or sub out with something else just as healthy.

For me I did not lose weight when I was breastfeeding. I was not always eating the most healthy as I would grab what I could before I needed to tend to the baby again. And trying to fit in exercise with a newborn and older kids was just impossible at that moment. Plus with my first one I nursed, at the beginning she was nursing about every 1 hr around the clock, my second was better, but still hard to find time to fit in exercise between feedings. Once I stopped nursing and my kids became more independent I was able to get back into my exercising.
