My son just informed me that the neighbor boy who is 10 is allowed to stay by himself. Also that he has a shot gun. Which as it turns out is just a real looking toy. This does not make me feel confident about my child playing over there. I just calmly asked "Oh really, do you play with this gun?" Yes was his response. I almost fell over. I know it is summer now and this CHILD is at my house almost daily wanting my son to play at HIS house. How would you handle this situation or am I over reacting? PLEASE any suggestion or advice is welcome. Thank you.

Yes he is 8 and I feel a little better that you agree this isn't right. Calling to make sure his mom is there is a great idea. Sometimes I don't think of the obvious. Thank you. I do encourage them to play at my house be he is a wild child with nice manners. (in front of you) I don't know if there is lack of supervision or what over there. I think I will just have to stick to my guns. (no pun intended) and bite the bullet (again) and keep them at my house. Yikes. It is going to be a lonnnnng summer. And it only gets better when they get older right? :( Thanks Jennifer.

With no supervision? No way! Isn't your son 7 or 8 Shannin?
If he wants to go over I'd call the parents and make sure they are going to be home. Or have the boy over at your house instead.
If the gun is a toy and you don't want your son playing with toy guns, tell him he isn't allowed to play with it while over there. Inform the parents you don't want him playing with it if you have to.
If not, don't allow your son over... invite the boy to play at your house under your supervision.
