What age did you let your kids wear make up to school?

Elli is going into 7th grade. She wants to wear makeup (mascara). I say no. But I don't really have a good reason other than I don't want her to because I don't think she needs it (typical mother response) and I feel like she's too young!

What does it hurt if she wears it? Nothing really. Except it adds that level of confidence and maturity you get with a teenager. And I'm not ready for that! She's only 11.

Thoughts?

My mom let me experiment with her make up, I didn't wear a full face until college but I was allowed to play with eye shadows and lip glosses and very little mascara since I was 11. Just a little and she helped show me the proper techniques to look classy and now I'm a pro at MAC. Just teach her that a little goes a long way and show her how the right way to emphasize her natural beauty and to love herself the way she is.

Actually, 11 is way too young to be getting into doing makeup for school and going out. Doing it at home is one thing but not to go out places. I was not allowed to wear it until I was in high school. My daughter was 15. There is no reason an 11 year old needs to wear it. SHe is not old enough to worry about boyfriends and looking just so for him, nor is she out to impress anyone. Let her grow up at a reasonable rate and be a little girl.

Let her experiment, not on a huge scale! But try some nude glosses or some brown mascara for volume.. Subtle little things to bring out her natural beauty.
