I believe that by age 13 or 14, a girl should be comfortable and confident wearing 3" stiletto heels, since they are still the sophisticated norm for well dressed women, including young women. If and when she's inclined to advance to still higher heels, I'd certainly encourage her to do so. I would definitely discourage platform shoes, though --they're a good way to break an ankle, and personally, I find the look rather clunky, adding nothing to creating a strong, feminine look.

Well I am not even a mother but I stumbled across this site and I am 15 years old I only wear high heels on special occasions. But not big tacky ones and I don't even want to wear big tacky ones because quite frankly I see girls that wear these 6 inch platforms at parties and it just looks disgusting mind you they are only like 13 years old! Although I do think that once girls reach the age of 13 that you allow them with the option of wearing them but small ones like 3-4 inches at the max! But you do have to relise that if you just tell them no your not allowed to wear them with out no given reason they are going to test you.

I'm a mother of a thirteen year old girl and I don't think that this is the right age. I let my daughter wear 1 centimeter heals on the bottom of boots or sandals but I'm not sure that I'd let her wear stilletoes!!!
The age to start wearing big high heals would be 15 and up. As a child my mother probably would have let me wear big high heels at age 13 but I actually never did because none of my friends wore them at that age and I would have been the only one in my friend group at parties, ect.
In the end I think it all depends on what their age is.
Hope I helped! Mackenzie, Xox

I may be a little late to this question but.... Wearing heals as a young lady can be quite the confidence, pretty experience. However, until they stop growing (which i believe is around 18) encouraging the wearing of heals in any constant way can actually damage the growing bone structure. For special occasions or a date, heels could be a great thing, but for everyday use it may be better to encourage a sassy strappy sandle or a cute 1s boot or heel. Hope this late opinion helps :)

I have never been able to wear any kind of heel due to bilateral foot surgery when I was 18 and this hasn't stopped me from dressing classily as and when I need to. The idea that heels are required for elegance is amusing.
That said, I wouldn't let a growing child wear heels higher than 1 inch as the foot bones are liable to develop complications that could cause the child chronic pain for life.

For a 6 year old, small wedges are appropriate. for a 13 year old, a slightly higher heel, but 3 inch stiletto heels on a 13 yo looks ridiculous, like they're trying to play dressup.
Heels are not necessary to present a well dressed image, either. Taller women actually may prefer short wedges or flats to towering heels.
You should get your daughter age appropriate shoes (you'll find that they don't have stiletto heels for 6 year olds) that she thinks are cute and dressy.
Is your daughter even interested in heels? I wore wedges at the age of 9 because I loved them. My daughter keeps stealing my heels so I am going to try to find her a pair of wedges so she leaves my shoes alone. If your daughter has no interest then don't worry but if she does want to then go shopping and find a low heel she can walk in comfortable. There are lots of shoes that have a heel but are not like a high heel.
