What age should teens date?

I personally don't think there should be a set age on when a teen can date. As a parent, you know how mature and mentally ready they are to date. I had my first boyfriend at 15. Plus if your kid met someone and grew real feelings for them and you forbid them from dating I'm sure they would grow to resent you. I don't think teens are ''too young to date'' but some are too immature and too naive to understand what relationships are all about. My grandparents met when they were 14 and 16 years old and they are still together almost 60 years later. That's true love.
If your teen comes to YOU and tells you that they want to date, you shouldn't deprive them. They will do it somehow. Especially if it's someone that they see everyday at school.

Ok, so let her friggin date. Don't presume to tell the rest of us how to raise our kids. Your OP sounds like (as I said) another teen trying to tell us how to raise teens...which always makes me laugh, the little know it alls...

If your method worked for you, great. Mine's working for me, too. It didn't involve letting them date at 13, 14, even 15...and group outings only from 16-17. I'm not a grandparent yet, so things are going well!

I'd perhaps consider your arguments if you hadn't presented them with no more thought than an average 15-16 YO who didn't get their way.

Here we go again...teenagers that have too much time on their hands presuming to tell adult parents how to parent their kids!

Sweetie, when you HAVE kids of your own, you can decide how to parent them...

So why should we take advice from you about what we should let teenagers do? After all, my kids aren't the ones out of control, LOL.

What I don't understand is how the same person can advocate for letting teens have sex and date whenever they want... yet is also complaining about her out of control 18 year old daughter...

Things that make you wonder.....

Shawnn, I have an 18 year old daughter. So yes, I would know about being a parent. Thank you.

lol My kids listen to and respect me and my reasoning. Granted, my oldest is 13, so her opinion 'could' change in the next two years... but she currently thinks the other kids in her class that date are idiots. It's not about 'forbidding' dating. It's about teaching your child that there is a LOT of time for opposite sex relationships and while they are young to mid teens they should simply be focused on school, friendships, and fun... not one on one relationships w/ the opposite gender.

Group hang outs are fine... one on one in public dating... 16+. Don't like it... well, at least you aren't my kid. ;)
