Maggie you really need to talk this through with your doctor before deciding to have a baby at 43. I have to say who told you, you could die? Thats a bit extreme! Women of your age face difficulties in conceiving as the eggs are older and some months you will not release an egg at all, saying that some months you will release more than one so the risk of a multiple pregnancy is higher. You will be more prone to diabetes whilst pregnant and you will feel very tired. I had my last baby at 38 and I was tired from dawn to dusk.

The risk of down syndrome is much higher as your eggs are older and so is the fathers sperm. I had a neucle scan at 12 weeks to tell me the risks and this put my mind at rest that the baby was healthy.

Lots of women these days are having their first babies in their 40's. If it is something you really want to do then both you and your partner need to see the doctor so that you are both aware of the risks involved. Then if you both want to go ahead then go for it!
