HELLO! I AM HOPING SOME MOMS CAN PROVIDE INSIGHT OR HAVE BEEN THROUGH THE SAME EXPERIENCE AND CAN HELP!!! I AM NURSING MY 2 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER WHO IS THANKFULLY COMPLETELY HEALTHY! I AM ALSO STILL NURSING MY 22 MONTH OLD SON. HE NURSED THROUGHOUT MY ENTIRE PREGNANCY, EVEN WHEN THERE WAS ONLY COLOSTRUM. THE DAY MY MILK CAME BACK IN, MY SON STARTED HAVING ALLERGIC REACTIONS TO IT. WITHIN ONE TO TWO HOURS OF NURSING, HIS CHEEKS WILL GET BRIGHT RED, HIS MOOD COMPLETELY CHANGES TO THE WORSE, AND HE GETS A OPEN BLISTER DIAPER RASH THAT BLEEDS. YES, ALL WITHIN ONE TO TWO HOURS OF NURSING! WE OF COURSE TOOK HIM TO THE PEDIATRICIAN WHO SENT US TO A PEDIATRIC ALLERGIST. HE HAS BEEN BLOOD TESTED FOR EVERY POSSIBLE ALLERGY AND WE FOUND HE IS ALLERGIC TO CITRUS AND CITRIC ACID. OVER THE PAST MONTH, I HAVE REMOVED ALL CITRUS AND CITRIC ACID FROM BOTH HIS DIET AND MY OWN. HE IS STILL SUFFERING FROM THE SAME SYMPTOMS. HE EVEN STARTED WHEEZING ONE TIME WHILE NURSING. (VERY SCARY!!!) THE DOCTORS AND LACTATION CONSULTANTS ARE AT A COMPLETE LOSS AS TO WHAT MIGHT BE GOING ON WITH MY MILK. LET ME ALSO SAY THAT BEFORE I GOT PREGNANT, MY SON NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY MILK. HIS ALLERGIC REACTION GOES AWAY OVER NIGHT AND HE WILL WAKE UP WITH A COMPLETELY HEALTHY LOOKING BOTTOM. HIS HORRIBLE DIAPER RASH RETURNS EVERYDAY AROUND THREE IN THE AFTERNOON. I HAVE PRESCRIPTION CREAM THAT HELPS SOOTH HIS BOTTOM BUT AND ASKING FOR YOUR HELP AS TO FIGURING OUT THE CAUSE OF ALL OF THIS. I KNOW WEENING HIM IS AN OPTION, BUT NOT ONE I WANT TO TAKE UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. I ALSO WANT TO NOTE THAT THERE WILL BE DAYS WHERE HE GOES TWO OR THREE DAYS IN A ROW WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS BUT THEN THIS HAPPENS AGAIN LITERALLY OUT OF NOWHERE. I HAVE TRIED REMOVING DAIRY AND MANY OTHER THINGS OUT OF OUR DIET WITHOUT RESOLVE. WE ARE VEGETARIANS AND EAT MOSTLY ORGANIC HEALTHY FOODS. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN OFFER!!!

I don't think I can be of any help, but if you've removed the citrus from both of your diets and he never had a problem like this before.... I would be inclined to think it has nothing to do with the breastfeeding.

I'm sorry. Hopefully someone will have some suggestions for you.
