I used Johnson's Vapor bath and Vick's Baby rub when my son was too small for cough medicine. It seemed to help. Some insurance companies have a nurse hotline you can call to ask questions too. Check and see if yours does and give them a call.

If the drs are saying let it run its course then there prob is nothing to be concerned about. There is no meds for a common cold or cough. And if he has this following bronc. then it is most likely just left over coughing. I know its scary but it most likly isnt anything. but at the same time, drs are not always right. Just comfort him as much as possible, give him baths, use the vics for babies, and dont dress him to warmly cause the heat will intensify the coughing. Dont dress him to lightly either cause being cold while coughing just isnt fun. Make sure he stays cool but not cold. If it isnt any better in 2 days or so, id take him back to the dr. it will prob not be gone in 2 days, but it should show some kind of improvement. I hope this helps and good luck!!!

thankyou..i have been having him sleep in his swing.. since he refuses to sleep in his crib. and ihave this product from up and up that you pour in his tub thats supposed to help babies with colds and i do have the baby vicks. so if that helps ill probably hold off on taking him to the doctor but i did make an appointment with his doctors for tomorrow jst because hes been putting his hands up by his ears... which to me sounded like an ear infection? but no fever! so iguess ill see how it goes /:

i know it's not fun, but there's not much to do. if it bothers him alot after he's been sleeping (or while he's trying to sleep) prop up the head end of his bed - this will keep things from settling in his chest while he sleeps. the cool mist humidifier is great too...other then that there's not much to do. sounds like he's been checked out well by the dr. i would say that if he still has it after a couple of weeks to get him checked again. my friend's baby had bronchitis at this age and had a horrible cough after it cleared up for almost 6 weeks.. gl

You didn't say how long he has had the cough, but I am assuming it is new.. if there is no fever then medication is probably not necessary at this point. Especially since your doctors office isn't too concerned.

What I would do is give him a nice warm bath dress him comfortably and put some vicks on him...They sell a type of vicks for babies which isn't as strong.

I have always found that this helps..and if you take a shower let him sit in the bathroom while you shower so he breathes in the steamy air.

Have you taken him to the doctor? A lot of newborns have a cough and make weird breathing sounds because they still have the mucous in their system. It should go away in a month or so.

Edit to add: A cool mist humidifier works well for coughs. He's too little to actually give him anything.
