So my 4 month old wakes up around 9am everyday, goes down for her nap around 1130-12 o'clock and only sleeps for 30 mins.. then she's awake and babbling and playing until around 3-4, when she goes for another 30 min nap... then she's awake until bathtime, 630-7, and drinks for about 1hr and a half before bed. She's super cranky around our dinner time, 530-6 and I can't get her to sleep for longer than 30 mins! I try putting her in her playpen - doesn't help. I put her in her crib and same thing, she only sleeps for 30 mins. I feed on demand, and only breastfeed. I guess my question is - what can I do to get her to nap more? I know that if she slept for longer she wouldn't be so cranky but I really don't know what to do!

when my kids were that young it was suggested between 4-6months to START on cereal, nothing substantial just enough to thicken the consistency of the formula/ breast milk a LITTLE... not to the consistency of oatmeal. if you push her first nap to maybe 12:30- 1 and then her next nap to 4:30 she may be able to sleep longer, and then stay up for dinner and bath, then go to sleep around 8

perhaps she needs more substance right before her nap, have you tried introducing cereal? if that doesn't work try to incorporate 3 naps during the day, or try to push her nap times a little later

k thank you! I'm going to go get some rice cereal today and see about starting that tmrw.. I'm going to have to invest in a high chair and some baby spoons too :) I wish she took the bottle cause it would make giving it to her simpler instead of introducing a spoon along with the cereal lol but she has to get used to it sometime :)

I wasn't sure if 4 months was too early to give her cereal, is her GI tract developped enough to allow that? She still wakes up during the night to feed so the first feed after she wakes up is 3 hrs after, usually around 1030-11... she falls asleep on the breast most times, but it's almost like she's struggling to stay awake! She stops feeding to look at the cat on the couch behind me, if Daddy's next to me she'll stop to look at him and laugh.. I've tried going into her room where its dim and feeding her in the rocking chair but she looks around at the curtains! lol she's very curious. I don't want to put her in her crib and let her cry either, I don't agree with that, I think it's mean.. sigh lol
