You will probably think I am crazy, but after you bathe him and he is ready for bed...put regular vicks on the bottom of his little feet(from under the toes down to the heel---just a small amount...enought to see it,a thin l;ayer all the way covering the foot.) Then put socks on him and put him to sleep. This will not only relieve the cough it will make it go away in about 2 days...Good luck, let me know...Codi

I do this to my 2 year old EVERYTIME he gets a cough...my 18 year old still does it when he is not fweeling well and has a cough too...

Such an awful thing to deal with! You feel so bad and everyone in the house is exhausted as it usually worsens at night! I have three 7, 3 and 18 mos.. I love "Baby Rub" and have used it on all three! it is great for allergy season and cold season. I alternate each day, one day on the chest next day on the back and I think it works great for those sleepless nights! They like it too and ask for it "Creamys". If that doesn't work and they have a coughing spell in the night or if it is really bad during the day I use Karo(light corn syrup). Works for cough, constipation and even gas. Wonderful stuff to keep in the cabinet. Funny about the Honey. With my oldest you could give honey after the age of 2 and now by my third you can't give it under 3?? During the day lemonade and fruit teas are good too. My kiddo's like the Lipton peach or apple. Can never give them too many fluids when they have a cold. Good luck to you!! Feel better soon!

Rub his chest with vapor rub and use a humidifier.  If you don't have one put a pot of water on the stove.

Be careful with the baby rub I heard on the radio a couple of weeks ago that Vicks was not to be used on children under 6 years old, it was causing respirtory failure in small children.  I'm not sure if baby rub is the same.  My son use to get the croupe alot when he was little and taking them into the fresh air is suppose to break down the mucus.  Hope this helps :)

My foster daughter had a terrible cough for nearly 2 weeks. Here's what we did to help her sleep at night. First, using vicks on the back and chest does help (at least it did with us) And yes, I also put it on her feet. Then I used a humidifier. I also used pillows to prop up the top of her crib, while placing a small one at the bottom by her feet to hold her in place, otherwise she slid down. Lastly my doctor was able to give us a "med" that was made of Maalox and Lidocaine. Basically, it numbed the back of her throat. I discovered that not only did it help her soar throat (from all the coughing) but it numbed it long enough for her to fall asleep without feeling the itch in the back of her throat which was what was causing all the coughing in the first place. Good luck.

I was a nanny for 15 years before having my own two children and I have always used honey after they were two and have had no problems. I also use Eucalyptus oil for cough and congestion. I just put a drop on the shirt around the chest area and it seems to help. I also have been using an herbal product called Get Better Bear that seems to work as well.  If it's a dry cough then use a really good warm air humidifier. Good Luck!

Honey Works Better Than Cough Medicine, http://www.livescience.com/health/071203...

The doctors told me not to give my daughter cough medicine-because they are ineffective and can be harmful, also try to stay away from anti-biotics(I don't believe in them myslef)- Taking antibiotics for colds and other viral illnesses not only won't work, but also has a dangerous side effect: over time, this practice helps create bacteria that have become more of a challenge to kill. Frequent and inappropriate use of antibiotics selects for strains of bacteria that can resist treatment. -> http://kidshealth.org/parent/general/sic...

Honey is fine for 3yo, it is 12 mos and under that it poses risk. Honey mixed with a bit of lemon is great for cough. Also we use "herbs for Kids" Cherry Bark Blend, herbal supplement.

Best option is go to the chemist and ask them, Calpol have a lovely range of kiddy meds and all work top notch, they all taste good too lol. If its really bad go and see the doctor, your little one might need anti-biotics.
