What did you do to get your child to try different foods?

Picky eaters are common! I put everything I've cooked on my kid's plate. I don't make her eat all of it. But after she's done she can go play. I leave her plate on the table. If she decides she hungry later, the plate is there. I don't let her have anything else until her plate is empty (or it's the next day...I don't leave the plate overnight). Sometimes it's right before bedtime and she's cramming the last bits of food into her mouth, because she's realized she's hungry. She's also realized that if she just eats what's on her plate (even just tries a little bit...making her finish can be damaging as well) I'll usually let her have a treat of some sort. It's not an immediate solution, but it's worked well for me. My kid still won't eat everything, but now at 3.5 years she'll at least try new foods and does eat a fair amount of vegetables.
I give all new foods as a side to a very familiar food. I offer only about a tablespoon at first for my daughter to try. If she wants more of the main food, she has to take at least one bite of the new. I also do the same for myself and my husband for new foods. That way she sees us trying new things as well.

I always fed my kids off my plate. Kinda bites me in the butt now because they are still grabbing ood off my plate but I do allow it. That is how I got my kids to eat everything. Of all 8 I have one who doesn't like carrots or sweet potatoes. I have one vegan. Everybody else eats everything that I cook.
