What do I do about my six month old who continually wakes up to play?

Since my son was eight weeks old we have been working on sleep training. In our house, it is night from 8:30 pm-8:00 am. His room is very dark. He sleeps with white noise. He goes to bed like an angel. He hasn't woken up wanting to eat in a month. But he wakes up one or two times a night and plays loudly for at least a half hour usually an hour. I have tried all sorts of things to discourage this including dropping him down to two naps a day this week. (he is a good napper and I am vigilant about him not getting overtired.). Most everyone I try and talk to about this doesn't see it as a problem. I checked my notes he has been doing this for over two months. We are all awake while it goes on ..... Any thoughts or suggestions?.??

I don't really think it's a problem either. It's kind of unrealistic to expect a baby to sleep 11 1/2 hours with no interruptions. Heck, Most ADULTS can't sleep through the night! :)

Have you tried going in to soothe or rock him? Quietly patting his back or some other calming gesture might help him settle more quickly. Remember, he was IN your stomach longer than than he's been OUT. Don't expect him to grow up overnight.

Despite our best intentions, each baby is an individual. What works for one doesn't work for all. They don't tend to follow our carefully laid plans. Your comment about referring back to your notes suggests to me that perhaps you are a little OCD about your baby's development. It sounds like you are already a terrific parent....just try to breath deeply, relax and enjoy your beautiful new family.
