I want to homeschool my 5 yr. old who is already in public school in kindergarten in NC. I need help to know if I have to register my homeschool now or when he is 7. And what do I do to inform the public school I want to take him out so I can homeschool him. I want everything legal. I've had enough with the way the public school system teaches my son it's not fair the way they treat children. Please help!

I looked at home schooling when we were living in the US. We weren't in North Carolina, but I read through the requirements for most states and a lot of them had more guidelines and nuances than I would have expected.

I think at 5 you can probably just withdraw your son from school, and not need to formally register as a homesschooler until he's 7. BUT I would get in touch with local homeschool groups in your area because often there are better and worse way to do things - although technically legal, one route might give you less of a headache in the long run than others.

There should be homeschooling advocacy groups, homeschool coops, and parent support groups you can get in touch with.
