What do you buy a baby for their first birthday when they just got everything they need/want for Christmas?

Really he wont know the difference so if it isn't a big deal to you I wouldn't bother. If you really want to get him something I would go for books(can't ever have to many) or even a toy that is a little advanced for him that he can grow into. Maybe take him somewhere special and have a family day as his gift instead.

How about something to commemorate their first birthday. I got my son a cute little Teddy that had "Baby's First Birthday" on it. For my first birthday, my grandmother started a tradition of buying me angels with the number of my year on them. Sometimes those are cherished the most as the children grow...toys and clothes come and go but these momentos last forever.

for Christmas & Birthdays we buy clothing in the next size up, and toys that will be appropriate for them anytime within the next year. Otherwise we were needing to upgrade their toys during the year anyway, this way it's just part of their b'day too.
Amy-We have done that also
I just dont think you can have enough books. I love gettings things for craft activities (you can do more art then what you think with a 1 yr old). I like buying toys that will last a while like blocks, legos, trains, just any kind of building/thinking toy. You can also choose to wait and get him something down the road he may need (like a baby riding toy for when its warm out)--he will never know he didn't get ot on his birthday.
