My almost 16 year just got a babysitting job for the summer, few days a week, few hours each day. The children are twin 7 year olds and a 9 year old. She doesn't know what to charge, any suggestions what you ladies might pay? She is the oldest of 6 so I have never paid someone to come sit.....

hello , I am a babysitter to new born bot twins and I charge $13-14 an hr. just because is more work and a little bit harder then taking care of older kids. I cant believe that some of you mother on here will only pay $5 hr. like do you even what your nanny getting paid reasonable? I see it like this the more you pay the more the nanny is going to pay mind to your child the less you pay that means you don't know what is worth to take care of your child.

I would pay my babysitter but he end of each week $500-$900 depending on what I want them to do. if there is cleaning some and cooking some. if I want my sitter to work over time I would pay them a little over $900.

I use a friend's sister - we pay her $10 for night work and $12 for day work. Let's face it, babysitting at night is much easier than during the day!

This is so regional. We are in New England and pay $15/hr for a teen, but where we have so many we hire 2 sitters at $15/hr each. For full time, it is $1860/mo per child. I would call friends and neighbors to get the local averages, plus call a nanny service and go a bit below what an adult nanny charges in your area.

my daycare charges $16/day for age 2 to 12 which includes breakfast, lunch and a snack in a nine hr period plus they have a playground and a 1-2 hr preschool program they do with the kids age 2-5. Its $21/day for age 6wks to 23 months. Which is more than reasonable cause they are a great daycare!! On the rare occasions that me and my husband go out on a weekend nite the neighborhood girls will babysit and i'll give them $20-$30 for the evening (7pm-12am) and i drive them home as well as pick them up!! this is for 1 child age 5.

I pay $10 an hour for 2 kids (ages 5 and 2) and when my older ones are around (9 and 7) I pay $15 an hour; my new sitter is helping out with dishes and laundry also.

I always paid my favorite babysitters more money because I wanted them to be available when I needed them.

My 19 year old is probably the most overpaid babysitter you can imagine...but that is because she always made herself "useful" - after the kids go to sleep, she cleans everything up so when Mom and Dad get home, the house is immaculate...so like all jobs, she learned that you are paid what you are worth.

Also, if they babysit for an infant, they should get paid more because you want them to be really diligent - I would not let my child babysit unless she was CPR certified.

I pay a teenage babysitter $7 or $8 per hour and an adult $10 an hour. My kids are 6 and 9.

I have always paid our teenage babysitters $5 an hour. I have 2 children 6 & 8 so that would be $2.50 per child. I think that is pretty reasonable considering that they are older and don't need alot of hands on (diapers, bottles, etc.). Hope this helps.

Here in Alberta, I coach a lot of kids/teens so I asked them when I was looking for a sitter myself. - Average is $8.00/hour for the first child + $1.00/hour/child after that. MOST of the kids that are friends of mine feel guilty taking that much from me so only charge me $5.00/hr. Other moms I talked to and other sitters are pretty firm on the 8+1. It also depends on day/night/and length of time. If its all day and the sitter does more than just sit at home with the kids and play video games they can earn up to $10.00. But if they sit at night and the kids are already in bed, then it's closer to $6.00/hour as they get to do what they want for the most part as long as they are there.

I am a provider out of my home. I teach a pre school program to them along with feeding them 2 meals a day and 2 snacks. I take them on outings and fieldtrips, plan fun activities and crafts and so forth. I get $150 a week per child which is $30 a day per child. For siblings I give a discount to help out the parents fees.

I have a 4yr old and a 2 yr old...I pay the babysitter $30 a day ($15 for each kid)...she feeds them breakfast, lunch and dinner most days b/c of mine and my husband's work schedules. She's the best sitter in the world!!! She bathes them, plays with them, takes them to the park and does all kinds of arts and crafts with them as well as teaches them new things!

i do think it depends on the children...age? how much they'd be required to do? cleaning? since she's not changing diapers that doesn't have to be worried about. Will she need to drive them anywhere. Figure that much out too. If it's just to go over their house and "play" and keep them busy for a few hours a week I end up paying 5-7 an hour.

We live in the midwest (US) where everything tends to be cheaper and you can't charge as much. My daughter charges $5 an hour for 1 or two if they are easy kids. She charges $10 an hour for multiple kids especially if they're difficult. The parents seem to know and often my daughter is the only one who will sit for them so they pay her extra! She has an all day job for one child child this summer and she's charging $5 an hour.

We pay for babysitting $10 an hour. We had nanny's run $10-$15 an hour for 1 child. With the nanny it didn't matter how many children you had, there's a minimum of what they expect. However, for $10-$15 an hour we expect cleaning, washing, and taking care of the children. I think our baby sitter @ $10 an hour is high considering our son is usually asleep and the sitter simply sits and does very little.

It depends on where you live. call some daycares and see what they charge then she can charge a little less. I babysitt and I charge $20 a day and that is about 11 hours $30 if there are 2 kids. the daycares here are $25 for 12hrs a day.

I pay a base rate of $175 per week, that's for 8 hours a day. If they are there for more than 8 hours, which most are because of travel time to and from work then it's $3 per hour. I pay $5 for overtime since I have three kids. I get a little bit of a discount. My children are 3,5 and 10. One is only part time. Daycare can be very expensive.

For three kids, it would cost at least five dollars a hour~ a better rate is about 2$ a kid per hour. If she is playing with them~ if they are doing their own thing and she is just "present" I doubt she could get that much a hour.

I have 3 girls (3, 4, 8) so:

When my kids go to an actual day care I pay $25 each child. WHen I have our nanny come into our house I pay $10 a hour, and she does some tidying up and the kids laundry. But when I have a teenage babysitter (14yrs old) I pay her $8 an hour.

I am not even sure what the going rate for babysitting is, and I might not be paying enough to any of my sitters.
