What do you say when your 7 year old daughter tells you that no one plays with her at recess?

She says the girls ignore her including her best friends, other friends stay in the class to color and the boys get annoyed when she tries to play with them. I was very sad to hear her words, but so glad she could tell me. We talked about everyone still learning to be friends, each of the girls and their personality and how her teacher is helping. It's very hard to see your child cry and even harder for her to understand how she would never ignore her friends and why do they do that to her. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Maybe get her into something like the brownies where she can meet other girls outside of her school, and do something to build her self confidence and know she has friends elsewhere. School is a bitch...and so are little girls.

Thanks. We are working on more meaningful play dates. My daughter is an only child and we have her very active in lots of things with lots of play dates. We talked about that and she says that her "best friends" only like doing things with us because we do fun things like the park, hiking, etc. I think I will have to work harder to make the play dates more meaningful on a different level.

Maybe help her by having friends over on the weekends, so they can get to know her in a more intimate environment?
