I love it but hey my son's name is Cullen Todd McLaren, love the name Cullen.

It's orgin is irish and we are of irish/scottish ancestry. Yes it does son a little like colin so you always need to pronounce it correctly. All my kids have irish names and couldn't be happier, Cullen, Brodie and Brenna

I agree that Cullen is a great name but it does sound close to Colin. If you like celtic names there is a traditional Welsh name with the same rhythm - Nolan.

I like the name.  But saying it in a normal way, without slowing down, someone your speaking to may think you're saying "Collin."  Cullen sounds like a Celtic name, and I've always liked Celtic, Irish, and Scottish names.  And the meaning of names are VERY important to me, I don't know how important they are to you.  My suggestion is to look up the meanings of "Cullen" and "Matthew."  I don't know if you are of any religious persuasion, but I am a Christian.  And I think about the story in the Old Testament book of Genesis where Sarah and Abraham were very old and had never been able to have children.  Sarah was listening at the door when God himself told Abraham that he and Sarah were going to have a son.  When Sarah heard that, she couldn't help but laugh out loud.  Because she was so old that she did not even have periods any longer!  So when the baby was born, God said that he should be called "Isaac" which means "laughter."  And every time Sarah or Abraham spoke their son's name, it reminded them of why he was named "Isaac."  Sarah had laughed at God's seemingly ridiculous promise, but yet there he was every time she called his name.  And, I'm sure that child definitely brought laughter to Abraham and Sarah who had thought for so many decades that they would never have any children.

I too am very big on the meanings of names. That is why i like matthew as a middle name. (Dont like it for a first). It means gift of god! So together his name would mean handsome gift of god.

I like it, I wanted original names for my children (Darius & Ailani), my Mum said, but then you have to always spell it out for people. My name is Stacey, & I often get asked if it is spelled 'ey' or 'y', and I often get called Tracey, so I think this is a problem you encounter no matter what. I also like it cos I think the 'cullens' from Twilight are very spunky =)

It doesn't matter what a bunch of strangers think about it. All that matters is that you love the name and/or it has a special meaning to you. Which ever name you choose I am sure you and your partner will be very happy with it. Osnat http://maaslife.blogspot.com/

thank you! im actually a single mom so im using everyone as "my partner" to bounce ideas off of. I do agree with you though. When it really comes down to it its what I want! Thanks again for the input :)

Cullen? for a first name. Honestly i would save my son from being picked on and switch the first and middle names around, or do something different with the Matthew (too overused).

I think it sounds great together! I don't hear the name Cullen often. Sounds very traditional male and modern at the same time. I like it.
