What does everyone think about homeschooling a senior in high school?

My 16 year old son has been struggling his whole junior year. He failed three classes last semester and 2 this semester. The one he has failed all year is engineering. I've tried to get help from the teachers but they're not helping at all. My son is really wanting to be homeschooled and there are some programs that would be good. He can go at his own pace and I believe be much happier. I thought he just wanted to stay home and be lazy. But I'm just not sure. He does have plans to go on to college and just wants to be able to get his diploma next year. In his regular high school, he would be too behind to finish next year when he is supposed to. His dad isn't really into the homeschool thing. I feel like my dream of my son walking on stage to get his diploma is going down the drain. It is so upsetting to me still. I never thought about homeschooling and would like some feedback especially from those who've homeschooled high schoolers. Thanks!

Oof...it'd be a challenge, for sure. I would say to give it a try for one semester, but tell him that this is his one chance to prove to you that he's disciplined enough to do the work, and that if he doesn't hold up his end of the deal, he's back at regular school.
