What does everyone think about the book 50 Shades of Gray?

I read the first book about two months ago, and I liked it but wasn't impressed. The writing wasn't that great, and I don't see how it's helping people's sex lifes. I just bought the second book 50 Shades Darker so I am hoping it will be better.

I thought that it was horrible and struggle to believe it was published. I made it to chapter 11 of the first book before I gave up, I couldn't finish it. Did no one edit this book before it went to print? It reads like a first draft. The characters are unbelievable, the language and setting don't match (set in Washington state but characters use British slang) and it's very repetitive (how many times can one person blush and lose their appetite). And what's with all the inner goddess stuff? Annoying. I read one comment by a reviewer who said the book was like juvenile porn with training wheels. I think that sums it up nicely. I'm really glad I didn't waste money on these books.

I read a lot of stories/books by self published authors who can't get a book deal. Some are really good. I find it sad that they can't get a deal but this horribly written mess is a runaway hit.

I have heard the second book is better but, really, there is only one way it could go.

It's awful, and not in a 'tha'ts sick and perverted! " way. In a, the writing is pathetic way.

I read a sample chapter and thought the writing was immature, unpolished, derivative and not in the least bit exciting. I read a reasonable amount of erotic fiction, so am not unfamiliar with the genre and usually enjoy it, but 50 Shades was just drivel.
