It could possibly be ear infection or teething or both. When my son was teething I new when my son was teething b/c he would get an ear infection with every tooth he got. My son ran very high temps so you may want to keep an eye on the child but would take her to doctor to at least have her ears looked at

Could mean an ear infection or it could just be that she has a bit of a bloked ear, either way i would suggest visiting gp.

I would also say an ear infection; my son does this when he gets one. He also does it when he is starting to get a tooth. You might want to check your babies mouth. They can have both baby panadol and Nurofen together if they are in any pain. As they reached differently to your child. I found this out from the pediatricians and chemist. Just make sure you follow the instruction for dosage. I would also take the baby to the doctors to get it checked out. Hope this helps Fiona

I agree that the possibility of it being an ear infection is possible. Though even if you do clean their ears nightly a inner ear infection is possible and actually likely if you clean their ears with a q-tip which you should never do. if you use a corner of a wash rag with warm water it could also be a form of swimmer's ear or basically a pocket of water in their ear. Definetly take them in to see their peds Dr. Because it is also signs of other possible disorders.

My 2 yo has held her ear and sucked her thumb since birth. For her it is comfort. But if she doesn't normally do it, then it could mean an ear infection. They do not have to run fever to have an ear infection.

Hello Colleen,

It might be nothing at all, but then again it can. Just like the other moms said it could be an ear infection or just pain from teething. Then she might have also realized that when she covers her ear it gives her a different sound. One of my girls did that for awhile. Hope that it turns out to be nothing bad.

Is she running a fever? Has she recently had a cold (or cold-like symptons)? If so it COULD be an ear infection. However....if not teething causes kids to pull at and play with their ears as well.

normally if they have an infection they will tug at it. does she cover it all the time or just with loud noise?

i would say that either they have a ear infection, or teeth may be coming in.. to much wax. i would watch for a fever. maybe they notice that ear was there.

could mean that she has an ear infection. Is she tugging on it or covering it with her hand?
