What does it mean when baby constantly draws her legs up into herself then kicks them out?

My five and a half month old daughter does this over and over again but doesnt cry so I dont know if shes in pain or not. It usually happens when shes trying to go to sleep and her little legs go non-stop (she really works herself up into a sweat). Is it a sore tummy? Wind? I just feeel really sorry for her and dont want her to be uncomfortable.

That sounds like normal baby movement to me. Our son also would do it and he would never cry. I think they are just exploring their bodies. Or maybe it's her way of putting herself to sleep since you say she does it when she goes to bed. I've seen other babies do it too. If you're worried ask your Doctor.

If your baby doesnt seem in pain then I would guess that she is just exercising her hip flexors. This is a natural stage that all babies go through in order to strengthen the muscles needed for sitting and crawling. I wouldnt worry too much, unless she seems in pain while doing this

it could be that shes got wind or is constipated, my son used to be the same and and it was always one of those two things that would be the problem

It often means they have wind or constipated, try rubbing her tummy and give her some warm water, hope this helps

my son has been doing that since the day he was born.. and obviously there is nothing wrong with that. maybe its their way of doing exercise.

It sounds like she is just preparing her legs to be moving around more. Think of it like this: if you floated in a pool for 9 months then laid on your back for another 5, how strong do you think your muscles would be? They have to exercise their muscles and build them up before they can start to trying crawling and walking. My daughter started doing this at that age any time she was laying there bored. So we got her a jolly jumper and put her in it a few times a day and she would wear herself out and sleep nicely. It sounds like your daughter is ready for one. She wants to get moving!

if she is not crying it is probably just baby movement that she really likes to do to put herself to sleep. if she is crying or fusing then it could be constipation or gas, if she is grunting when she does it then it is more likely constipation. but like i said before it sounds like she just likes to do it.

My son does that when he has gas, but he whimpers and cries when he does that...so your daughter may have gas.

If that doesn't seem to be the case, call her doctor. What I think is weird with my son (like his yellow nose) is competely normal (the carrots and sweet potatoes he loves caused the yellow nose). So check with them.

It could be she is just testing out those legs...

Good luck!
