I worked in a special needs classroom, and I don't think there is a common age! Some of our kids with autism were trained very early(one at 18 months), but some were not until middle school! Some just don't train easy, but when we started them in the classroom we started them the same way you would any child. One thing we did find is that diapers sometimes don't feel wet, and underwear with plastic pants encouraged the kids cause they didn't like being wet!

Jennifer is right it depends on the child and like I said I didn't toilet train my son until he was 5 yrs old .Maybe start putting your child on the potty during the day but at night put pull-ups on him and try out the other communities as well

My son that has AUTSIM and and is also delayed ,I didn't start with him until he was 5 yrs oldand at night I had him in pull-ups ,Now his 8 has never wetted the bed and understands to go to the toilet. What development delay does your child have ? I would probably start traing him during the day and keep the pull-ups of an evening until he understands the wettness feel and nuber 2's ,all the best
