What is an appropriate age to start my daughter on using tampons?

My 11 yr old step daughter is visiting on summer break and is on her period. She wants to go swimming, but she's never used tampons yet. I don't know when I should introduce her to them, and I don't want 2-3 weeks of her vacation wasted when all she wants to do is go to the pool. She relies on me (not her own mother) to confide in (due to the comfort factor), so she probably won't get the necessary information from somewhere other than my house. Any suggestions?

why would you wait? Get the slender ones (light) to start, show her how or give her a hand mirror, perhaps use some petrolium jelly on the tip of one to start.
If you are uncomfortable with tampons, try a diva cup.

Ig you are gonna use anything, teach her with OB's. They are so much more comfortable than the rest of them, but she might feel a little awkward since you use your finger and not an applicator.

Although, I do think personally 11 is too young to start using tampons. I think teens are a good age to start. Why would 2-3 weeks of the summer be ruined? She has her period for 3 out of 4 weeks of a month? That is crazy long.
