What is an easy way to get rid of a 2yr old's binky?

My daughter just turned 2, and she still uses her binky. She uses it to sleep mostly, sometimes she uses it playing around the house and she needs it in the car. Now she cries for it and asks "where is my binky?" How can I get her off?

We told her the "paci fairy" was coming to take it to other new little babies. We took one and then the next night we told her the fairy was taking her last one. The fairy left her a little stuffed animal. She cried for a couple of nights, but the transition was pretty smooth. The doc told us to let her cry it out. You also need to be consistent - when you do it, take it away for good and don't waiver and give it back.

I would take it one step at a time. When she is playing would be first once she has adjusted to that you can work on bed time. Let her fall asleep with it then you can try to take it once she is asleep. Little by little she will be ok without it. It is a security for her if you can find a different security for her then she will be more willing to give it up.

FYI - My daughter only used her paci when she slept and sometimes in the car, but her dentist told her that it already did some damage to her mouth (the way it was shaping and her teeth). She was two when we took it away.

Encourage her to do without while playing. Leave it in the bed and carseat and only allow her to have it at those times. Then only give it to her if she asks while in the car and bed. Honestly it's not a huge deal if a kid needs it only certain times of the day. It shouldn't cause any tooth damage or language problems unless it's in her mouth 24/7.
