A 1 year old won't remember anything about this birthday. As Racheal suggested, you could create some kind of keepsake. Hand/foot prints are easy enough to make and you can put it on display or keep a treasure box with keepsakes to show/give the child later in life.

It depends on if you want to give her something to play with now or to put away for when she's older.
I have bought my daughter a bracelet and for each birthday and Christmas I buy a charm to put on it. I have written a list of what I bought at what age and why I bought it. For example, for her 4th Birthday I bought a pair of ballet shoes because she had been bugging me to do ballet and that was the year she started.
If you are loking for something for her to open now and play with then it really doesn't matter as she probably won't want to play with it in another year or 2.

Thanks ladies. Sarah, i pray she can cooperate. For this year i will do the foot prints and hand prints and frame them as the dad is equally excited about the idea but also but on diferent colours of cloth for each year. Dove this is very helpful she has veryyyy many dolls and am thinking of getting rid of some lol. But i will definitley get her board books. For some reason i find myself gifting her every other time. Excitement of a new mom i guess.

I hope it turns out amazing, you could probably find a way to tranfer her birth footprints onto fabric, and that could be the center piece. As she gets older, her hands and feet will grow so maybe you could just do a hand, or a foot? Hopefully she will be cooperative!

We have hand and foot print stepping stone every year as a Father's Day gift and they are in our garden. I think making a hand/footprint image in fabric paint on a piece of material is a great idea, then when she turns 18 you could make a quilt of all of her prints. I wish I had thought of that 19 years ago. I guess Ill do that for my grand-kids someday. My husband bought both of our daughters a pearl at every special event (Christening, first birth day, First Xmas etc) he (at my urging) wrote just a brief remark every time a pearl was added. The plan is to give it to each daughter on her wedding day. I love the charm bracelet idea too.

Thank you Michelle. Makes so much sense and also the fact that gifts such as ballet shoes for your daughter means nurturing talent. I am from Africa btw. i joined this group today and there is just so much information i have been missing out on. Time for a new mom to catch up. Cheers
