Do one load every day. Wash and fold. Then it won't pile up on you.

I try and do a load a day, it doesn't always work that way. However, with so many kids and a husband that changes clothes a few times a day it piles up quick. So I really need to stay on top of it.

I do one load every day. No separating colours or anything like that. Then hang it out, get it off the line at 4, fold and put away. I do sheets on Mondays and towels on Tuesdays.

Make sure there are enough clean clothes so that nobody is wearing dirty underwear or socks...or just buy lots of socks and underwear!

I do laundry every day. At least one load if I'm lazy and only washing diapers. We live on a farm and the farmer is also a mechanic. Sometimes the kids also change clothes 42 times a day (they play outside a lot and are good at finding water puddles and mud puddles and I don't like dirty clothes worn in the house).

I don't separate clothes by colors. I wash diapers separately (obviously). I wash towels and jeans and sweatshirts (heavier items) together and I wash everything else together. I have a big table in the laundry room and fold everyone's clothes and then let them sit there for a week or two until I finally realize that nobody is going to put their clothes away. I have a laundry basket where I put everyone's socks and underwear in hopes that all the socks will be magically matched by fairies overnight but after a month or so realize the sock fairies by-passed the farm again and sit down on the living room floor and spend an hour matching socks cursing myself for putting it off so long.
I keep three bins under the laundry table, one for donation, one for storage and one for mending. When the donation bin is full, I bag it up and haul it out. At the end of the season, I take the storage bin up to the attic and put it into storage for the next kid. When the mending bin is full I look through it and realize that the kids have no outgrown everything in the bin and either cut it up for rags or put it in the donation bin.
I wash bedding and rugs every other week and curtains in the spring and fall.

Get your husband to do the laundry!
I'm dead serious-I don't do laundry. Hubby does the laundry around here!

I agree with Kate, one load everyday. My problem is putting it away lol.

Do what works, just don't let it pile up and intimidate you. :) I tend to do about 4 loads a week (not counting diapers), and this week I did three in one day and then four days later did the last one. I don't really have a schedule, but my goal is 4 loads/week, so if I haven't done laundry in a while, I run around pulling towels off places and find enough to make a load. It works.

I have an awesome laundry cart with 3 fabric bags for different laundry (whites & delicates, colors and darks). Whenever one of the bags is full I wash everything in it (and the bag). I usually end up doing a load every day.

My advice is to keep up with it as much as possible, that way it doesn't pile up and end up looking too intimidating :)

depends on where you are living. if you live in a house with your own washer/dryer then i would say when a basket is full do it so you don't have to spend hours doing it on the weekend. if you live in an apartment (i do) then it's a pain to have to do laundry every day. i usually do most of it on the weekend and then do 1 load mid week.
