at 10 months my baby was definetly crawling,he was responsive, if i called him from far away,he can hear and see me, now at 11 months he is crawling and walking along furniture pretty fast, says a few words, and holds his balance for about 10-12 seconds. i wouldnt compare to others,at this stage...

I have known of kids that don't say a word until age 3 or 4, then start to speak in full sentences ... no 'baby talk' - maybe she is not yet talking because she doesn't yet have anything to say - things are going okay for her

All kids are different. Don't compare.

Some walk by ten months, some at 13 months

Some are talking by 10 months, some at 16 months

She 'ought' to be rolling over, sitting up, holding her head up ... looks towards you when you call her name, smiles at you when you talk to her ... babbles and coos.... follows toys with her eyes, reacts to noises ... if you put her on her tummy, she can hold her head up .... support her weight, kind of, when you stand her on her feet (never letting go of course)

If she was/is not doing these things ... I might take her to see the doc, but otherwise, I'd not really worry

My son was like that. there were just better things to do. He'll be 3 on Feb 11 and is only now starting to say more words. Speech wise he is at the stage now that most babies are at at 18 months, but I knew he would talk when he was ready. As for socialization, about 9-10 months old is often when babies start "making strange." They don't want anyone but mum and dad, and it takes them time to warm up to people. My daughter refuses to go anywhere near her uncle and is absolutely terrified of my in-laws renter(so is my dog lol neither of them will be in the same room as him) but she is slowly growing out of it. She no longer screams when she's with daddy at a party and can't see mommy, and my son went through the same stage, but is now the most social child. He is still shy and it takes him a little time to warm up to people but he often does well in crowds. If you are concerned I would ask your doctor at her 12 month shots. Give it a couple months to see if you can figure out if she's not hearing you or if she's just not interested lol.

If you are concerned, why don't you talk to your doctor about a hearing test? She could very well just BE a quiet baby though. I don't remember the 'language development' of my kids at that age.

I guess they think she should be saying more, or trying to say more than she does. She's a pretty quiet baby.

What specifically concerns your family/friends? What do they say she should be doing?

This is all rather vague.

If they think she should be talking at 10mo, then they're idiots.

I know I shouldn't compare, it's just worrying me now. She only answers to her name half the time and babbles a little. Mostly makes noises, kind of like she's trying to talk but doesn't know how to do it. Her motor skills have developed really well.
