what is your view in spending time, effort and money in organising to celebrate your 2 year old's birthday?

A friend of ours said that we put ourselves to too much trouble for my baby's 1st birthday celebration, our friend thought that our baby won't remember what we have done for her 1st birthday therefore it was a waste of time and that we should think about giving birthday parties when our baby turns 13 years old when she can appreciate it.
We mark our baby's birthday once a year and because I am crafty, creative and enjoys having friends around, we made sure that during our baby's christening was a memorable one, I customised the invitation and decoration right through to the food, the same effort was made for her 1st birthday and yes, the same will be made for her 2nd birthday. I enjoy being creative with party decorations as I put my baby's personality to the designing of the decorations.

If you can afford it, who cares? Some people go way overboard, but maybe people think I do...and I don't feel that I do at all. Do what you want. It is your kid.
