My kids can listen to whatever music they choose. As long as I don't necessarily have to listen to it. Is the reason you don't like it because she has it on loud (in which case, just make sure she uses her headphones), or are you just trying to control her musical taste? Personally, I think teens are capable of deciding what music they like or don't like and don't need us to make those choices for them.

They may enjoy the following bands (which are a little bit "rock"ish so they might like them, but they do not use bad words and have uplifting lyrics):

1. Switchfoot
2. Skillet
3. Thousand Foot Krutch
4. Disciple
5. Flyleaf or Fireflight (these are girls)
6. Decyfer Down
7. Seventh Time Down

My kids listened to the same eclectic music that their dad & I do. And enjoy every minute of it. But, we listen to everything from classical, to jazz, to pop, rock, (some) rap, techno, oldies, celtic, acapella, instrumental...you name it, I'm sure I've got at least one CD.

The only restrictions I had on musical selection was that it could not be 'gansta' rap, nor could it be Kid Rock or Eminem cursing. Kid Rock's ballads were more than acceptable, but his 'fuck this, fuck that' crap lyrics...Nope, not allowed in my home, nor my vehicles.

But, I never had a problem with anything my kids chose to listen to. I do give my youngest a hard time about his taste in country, but it's tasteful country...LOL

However, she does owe you, and anyone else in the home, the courtesy of figuring out what the damn headphones are for!

I taught my children to love many different forms of music by not by forcing any form of music on them. They love the musicals "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' and many other forms of music. They also like some music I don't. It's just a matter of taste. I don't like peanut butter but I don't tell my children peanut butter is evil. Quite frankly, growing up loving "Heavy Metal" music there are some bands I do like that my middle child (who is a teen) loves. AND I bought us tickets to see a concert. Not only do I get to hear music we both like but I also get to spend quality time with my teen. Waste your time trying to force your child to be what you want or spend your time enjoying your child for who they are. Your choice.

I took my son to his very first concert - avenged sevenfold and it was off to the races. he's a complete metal head but - he is now a professional drummer (attends music school) and has a band. it's okay in other words!

What kind of a question is this? When did parents acquire the right to decide what a post-pubescent listens to?!

Dont worry to much, when i was a teenager i was always listening to KISS,Motorhead and alot of heavy metal. Now i listen to Country (I couldnt stand country as a teenager)and i LOVE listening to Tom Jones with my son :) So your daughter might also grow to like other music styles.I basicly listen from Vivaldi to Motorhead any music style. I find it funny, lots of people see my husband on stage and he looks like a mean tattooed rocker,i am also full of tattoos..but when somebody asks us what we listen to and we answer Country and that i love tom jones they always laugh, because apparently we dont "look" like people who would listen to that type of music.
And my mom always said that it wasnt different when she was younger, some parents didnt like their kids to listen to the beatles and so on.

Look I'm a teen myself and I do lisen to music pretty loud. Ok, if the boy band in question is one direction well, I'm not a fan ave there music, but if the metal / screamo her grandma doesnt like it is imaginary dragon and that then sing song like demon or radioactive, you'll that to lyric are talk abouth fighting for spécific noble case. But anyway she a teen and music for us teen is important it her chose. Only if it influance her in the wrong way now you could talk to her. Oh and are you sure it the music youre the volum the problem? But anyway it my oppignion thit up to you to see what you'll do.

Ps; sorry if therre is speeling mistake English is not my first language.

My teen girls like mostly country. Also pop. They have been trying different types. It might depend on what their friends listen to. Also I think dads have a big influence on teen girls taste in music. Hope that helps.
