The Mirena does not hurt when they put it in. I love it. No remembering anything. And i haven't had a period since i got it placed. Best thing ever. I was told you don't have to worry about not getting preg. after having it taken out either.

I have an IUS (like an IUD, but its made with progesterone, not estrogen - so I could keep breastfeeding - and its plastic, not metal) called Mirena.
Its the same 99.99% success rate as the pill, but cost $300 for 5 yrs of it, and never have to remember to take anything. I love it. And Ive had it for just over a yr now

I got the IUD. There is one for five years and one for ten years. I got the one for ten years and I love it. I dont have to worry about taking the pill and missing it and then being stressed out before my next period. It was a simple procedure it did not hurt and when my husband and I are ready for another one I can always have it taken out. It is the best thing ever.

Condoms are effective enough to protect from disease and pregnancy. Two perks one item. Chemicals with other birth control can affect your body in many different ways and then there are the side effects. I like the idea of keeping the sperm out, my personal choice. Very effective when used proper.

Christa, I am also really forgetful. I have an alarm set for 9pm every night on my cell phone to remind me to take it. It is the only way I honestly remember to take my pill. Hope this helps. :)
i use to do that myself until i got rid of the cell phone service provider. i still have the cell phone though. maybe i should set the alarm again. thanks for reminding me about that. thanks again Stella.

the paragurd sound nice but i dont know about having somthing inside my body that may or may not be rejected or may or may not be felt. i dont want foreign objects in my uterus/cervix, i had 1 & that was my son. lol j/k on that. i dont want anything that will make me gain weight either b/c i put on 7 pounds now & now i have to lose 17 lbs. i cant do depo but i know a lot of ppl that use it. so far i guess its pointing to lots & lots of condoms (which i hate, but they do their job SOMETIMES). I got pregnant using condoms.

I was on the depo shot for years....now nothing because I had my tubes tied after my second child. The depo shot works very well...BUT it does make you gain some weight and I feel it made me more irritable(cranky) also messed me up for a couple years when I got off of it....took me over a year to even have a period when I wasnt on it anymore......took 2yrs to get pregnant.

i was on the nuvaring and i got prego on it and i also know about 3 other girls that got prego on it to so in my mind its not really a birthcontrol, along with the patch.....
but i have been on merina for 6 months and LOVE IT!! the first 3 months were hard cause i had (sorry this may get a little graffic) super heavy flow, itchy and swollen....
but now nothing!!
i have no more periods until we decide to take it out
i dont have to remember to take a pill everyday
i dont have to remember when "my time" will be
its in there and dont have to worry til my son is 5!

I use nuvaring. I used to forget to take the pill at the same time every day. I have had 6 miscarriages so I CANNOT have anymore. I used all sorts, the pill,in all different forms, NFP(natural family planning), and the ring has worked the best. i am going to talk to my Doc next friday about wanting to quit my period. Iam excited.

I'm using Implanon, its a 3 year implant that goes in your arm on the underside. Its about the size of a matchstick. I tried the pills and the shot and all the others except the actual IUDs. I didn't like the side effects of the shot, and the pills didn't work. Both of my kids are BC babies and are actually not too far apart. (One is 2 and the other is 10 months. ) I also heard a lot of things that I didn't like about the IUDs like myrena...i.e. friends being able to feel them all the time espeicaly when sitting down and during sex. Horrible mood swings and migranes. I have had the Implanon for almost a year now and have had no side effects at all!!! I would reccomend it to everyone! But of course talk to your OB/GYN and see what is right for you!

I'm using Implanon, its a 3 year implant that goes in your arm on the underside. Its about the size of a matchstick. Its inserted with what looks like a really BIG shot, you get anesthesia to numb you up, a small cut is made for the shot, then the shot goes in and then viola your set for 3 years! The best part is that you are ready to lingo that same night without a backup of condoms. I had a little bit of a scar at first but now I cant even tell, scar was very small (size of a dot made with a fine tip marker). Ive been on it for more than a year and have only had spotting, which is soooo light its really not a problem. I decided to take this since I was breastfeeding (doesn't reduce breastmilk and totally safe), didn't want to gain weight like with other birth control methods and was afraid of putting anything down there! While breastfeeding and on the Implanon I never had a period but once I weaned my baby off I got a period and after that nothing except for the spotting.

I use the paraguard. I like the fact you do not have to worry about taking a pill etc. I have not had a problem with it and I have had it almost 2 years. They said when I had it done it will last 10 years. You have the option though to have it out if you ever decide to have another child. It also has no hormones so it does not have any affects with that.

I am on the Depo shot and I love it!! I dont have to worry about taking the pill or anything I just go get the shot every 3 months. I havent had any side affect and i know that everyone is different but I love the Depo!! I would totally recommend it to someone that cant ever remember the pill (Like myself) But there are tonz of different kinds of birth control out there besides the pill so you do have options. Good luck on finding the right one for you!!

Nothing. I've tried a few things, but don't wish to put anything into my body anymore. I hated the Depo, I tried it 1x & not only did I spot almost the whole time, but I was uncomfortably dry (sorry for TMI). I could never remember the pills, got pregnant 1x on them, & had a miscarriage. I tried the NuvaRing when it 1st came out, no problems with that, but I heard a lot of bad things going on with it. I guess I have come to the conclusion that it is in the Lord's hands.

the paraguard is an iud, but it's non-hormonal. It's a copper iud that can work up to ten years. Effective the second it's put in, and stops working the second it's taken out. Very little risks with it and there are no hormones to affect your body. It's a little pricey, but my insurance covered it completely, thankfully. If they hadn't I still would've paid for it b/c it is less expensive than two years worth of bc but useful for five times as long. You can have it while breast feeding because there are no hormonesand it doesn't make you have any weird side effects, weight gain, or anything like that. Best thing I have EVER used, and I've used basically all types of bc. Mirena is not safe while breastfeeding b/c of the hormones in it, so talk to your doc about the paraguard.

I went back on the pill and kept forgetting to take it everyday at the same time. My Husband and I discussed the different options and are giving nuvaring a try. o far so good. I did not want to try merena for the simple fact that in the not so distant future, time unknown, we are thinking of trying for another baby.
Lynn - posted on 01/01/2010
I am on my second IUD. I had the first one for almost 3 yrs, it was the kind without hormones, then when I started having period problems my DR suggested the Mirena because it has slow release hormones. I have had it for 3 yrs now without a single complication. I love it.
Christa - posted on 01/01/2010
yup i hate trying to remember to take the pill. i heard that marina the iud was safe to use when your breast feeding but i dont want to try that. i cant do shots either. thats why i was wondering. i wanted seasoniq but cant because i am breast feeding.
Roseanna - posted on 01/01/2010
the mirena iud is what ive got. it is a hormone-releasing system placed in your uterus to prevent pregnancy for as long as you want for up to 5 years. from what ive read women are getting pregnant on it almost like women on the pill. down fall is if you do get pregnant with this you have to get it taken out causing a miss carriage. some doctors will live it in depending how far a long you are. And it can fall out or move farther into your uterus.

I'm on the Depo shot right now because I'm breastfeeding but as soon as I'm done breastfeeding, I want to get the IUD. I can never to remember to take the pill and I was on the nuvaring but I didn't buy it one month and that was the month I became pregnant lol
